A 1961 Chevrolet Biscayne going out for a drive is not something you would see every day. Such cars turn heads and get a lot of thumbs up the moment they drive out of the garage. This is definitely the case for this gorgeous red Chevy, too.
The coupe-looking two-door sedan (Chevrolet called it like that!) cruises down the road with the self-assurance of a state leader surrounded by security, towing the invisible trailer of vibrant drama. It is the sound of the V8 engine, which is mated to an auto box.

1961 was the first model year for the third generation of the Chevrolet Biscayne. With a name inspired by Biscayne Bay near Miami, Florida, the Biscayne was the least expensive model in the Chevrolet full-size car lineup.

The V8 of the Biscayne fires up with no hesitation whatsoever, and all the electronics on the car seem to work. But the test drive will tell.

The model rocks bright red paint and chrome all over. The paintwork is far from perfect, as it displays various spots and dents, especially on the roof. Rust is eating up the side sills, and there are stains on the chrome bumpers as well. But this is one of the few lucky Biscaynes that was kept away from rotting in some yard or barn.

The Biscayne rides on 18-inch American Racing Torq Thrust wheels with a silver finish, wrapped in Nitto tires. Those wheels and the exhaust get the attention from the sides.

The 1961 Chevrolet Biscayne is far from being perfect

The car comes with an all-black leather interior. The seats sport little to no wear and tear after all those years the car spent on the road. The headliner was replaced at some point, but it is not exactly tightly attached to the roof. The two-spoke slim steering wheel can be tilted for more comfort for the driver.

The horn is not in the steering wheel, but it can be actuated via a button under the dashboard. That is the most uncomfortable position anyone could have when honking in an emergency situation.

There is no power steering, but the car drives straight; there is no need for much input from the driver when cruising down a straight road. However, the one driving the 1961 Chey recommends upgrading from manual to power brakes.

The 63-year-old car has 25,938 miles (41,783 kilometers) on the clock, but those numbers might not be accurate. At the end of the test drive, it turned out that the speedometer did not work, so the odometer was not going to turn over either.

Who knows how long it has been showing 25,938 miles? This needs to be fixed before the car sells. The 1961 Chevy Biscayne is for sale at Maple Motors. The one who wants to take it home will have to pay $24,900.
