2023 is the final year of the 300 sedan. Chrysler brought the 300C nameplate back for this occasion, celebrating the imminent demise of the V8 from its lineup. Only 2,200 examples of the 6.4L HEMI-powered 300C will ever be produced, and not surprising in the least, a handful of peeps bought these muscle sedans to flip.
The problem with flipping the 300C, however, is that it's not special enough. The 6.4L HEMI makes plenty of sense in this kind of vehicle, but given the Hellcat's existence in the Dodge Charger, why didn't the 300C receive the Redeye tune of the 6.2L supercharged engine?
The answer is – of course – Chrysler being Chrysler. This disappointment is best embodied by a recent auction of a 90-mile 300C on Cars & Bids, a car that failed to meet its reserve after 18 bids. The highest offer is listed on Doug DeMuro's platform as being $47,350 (sans a 4.5% commission).
Care to guess how much the 300C was brand-spanking new? The manufacturer's suggested retail price was $55,000 for half a day after the order books opened. That's how much it took Chrysler to sell the 2,000-unit allocation for the United States market. The remaining 200 vehicles will be delivered in Canada, where Chrysler assembles the 300 series, Charger, and the Challenger.
As per the comments section on Cars & Bids, the seller will be in contact with the high bidder for a deal. Given that most 300Cs available online at the present moment are listed with at least $10,000 over the sticker price, you'd assume the seller won't part ways with the 300C at anything less than $65k.
However, as per the seller, the reserve price was under the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Cars & Bids doesn't show the reserve price for obvious reasons.
With the 300 going the way of the dodo after the 2023 model year, the Chrysler brand will be left with one vehicle in the lineup. That vehicle is the Pacifica, a premium minivan that can be had with the 3.6L Pentastar in conjunction with a torque-converter automatic or as a plug-in hybrid with a continuously variable transmission. The combustion-only Pacifica is $37,620 (sans destination charge) at the moment of reporting, whereas the plug-in hybrid costs $51,095.
The 300 will die together with Dodge's muscle cars. The 300, Charger, and Challenger can trace their roots back to the DaimlerChrysler era, which ran between 1998 and 2007. The Auburn Hills-based automaker was restructured into Chrysler Group LLC in 2009, following the financial crisis of 2007 – 2008.
Fiat entered the scene in 2011, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles became a thing in 2014, the year Chrysler Group LLC became FCA US LLC. Fast forward to 2021, and the merger with Groupe PSA (think Peugeot and Citroen) led to the creation of Stellantis N.V.
