Although aging, the Stelvio and Giulia are not ready to drive off into the sunset yet. Quite the contrary, as Alfa Romeo keeps upgrading both, the duo is now available in a new limited edition specification.
Called the Edizione Carbonio, it is an exclusive proposal with a few special extras. The company's Australian branch has released the details surrounding these models, announcing at the same time that production is capped at only 50 units in total.

But what sets them apart from the rest of the range? Those would be the carbon fiber side mirror casings, monochrome front and rear logos, a Quadrifoglio-inspired red engine start button, and a red key cover. The Giulia Edizione Carbonio also gets carbon fiber backlit door sills, a carbon fiber trunk lid spoiler, and black Q2 badges. The Stelvio Edizione Carbonio features Q4 badges and 'Alfa Romeo' door projector lights.

Besides the abovementioned features, Alfa Romeo's Stelvio and Giulia special editions sport automatic full LED adaptive matrix headlights, Q2 limited-slip rear differentials, carbon fiber driveshafts, and red Brembo brake calipers. Other highlights include the fixed aluminum paddle shifters, 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster, DNA drive modes, and a premium sound system from Harman Kardon with 14 speakers.

Several safety systems are also on deck, with the Italian car manufacturer mentioning stuff such as rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot detection, lane-keeping assist, a rearview camera, and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving. The two models are also equipped with an electrochromic rearview mirror and side mirrors, and a few other bits and bobs.

There's nothing out of the ordinary in the powertrain department, where the special edition Giulia and Stelvio pack the usual 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The lump develops 206 kilowatts (280 ps/276 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, enabling a 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) acceleration in just 5.7 seconds.

Alfa Romeo offers the duo with Alfa Red, Vulcano Black, and Alfa White liveries. The two models build on the Veloce trim level and the company says they feature an added value of AU$7,400 (US$4,785) for the Giulia Edizione Carbonio and AU$3,400 (US$2,200) for the Stelvio Edizione Carbonio (compared to the equivalent model in Alfa White with the optional dual-pane panoramic sunroof).

But how much do they cost? Alfa's manufacturer's suggested retail price for the new special edition Giulia is set at AU$79,150, which equals US$51,198 at today's exchange rates, whereas the Stelvio Edizione Carbonio starts at AU$87,150 (US$56,373). As specified above, production is capped at 50 units in total, including 33 for the Giulia and 17 for the Stelvio.

It is yet unknown whether Alfa Romeo will offer Edizione Carbonio versions of the Stelvio and Giulia in other markets outside Australia.
