Soon enough, the upcoming 2026 Porsche 718 Boxster will blow the candles on the cake for the thirtieth anniversary since it was introduced in 1996 as the more affordable mid-engine two-seater sports car option compared to the rear-engined 911 series.
Its saga is quite complete, even though it hasn't even been on planet Earth for more than three decades – it soon got a feisty sibling, the Cayman coupe and the current fourth generation (982) has both a new nameplate (718) as well as a fresh engine series. The Porsche Boxster and Cayman both received the new 718 numeral to hark back to the Porsche 718 that won Targa Florio in 1959 and 1960.

Meanwhile, an all-new turbocharged flat-four engine was under the rear hood. However, the flat-six wasn't entirely retired – the more expensive GTS 4.0 model was offered on both 718 models, with the 4.0-liter rocking 400 ps or 394 horsepower. The current 718 iterations have been in production since 2016, and as they are about to celebrate a decade on the market, it might be a wise time to consider a replacement, right?

No worries, the rumor mill is on top of the situation along with the parallel universes of vehicular CGI – and their members of the imaginative guild of digital car content creators are also hard at work to envision the unofficial, hypothetical looks of the fifth-generation Boxster and Cayman. For example, Avarvarii Automotive Artworks (aka 'avarvarii' on social media) has taken a good, extended look at Porsche's plans for the 718 Boxster and decided he knows best about how to put it into the proper spotlight – with a quick CGI video, of course.

Not long ago, automakers were pushing EVs left and right – including Porsche with its refreshed Taycan and second-gen Macan – but now everyone is trying to soften the blow or even return to their old ICE ways. The German automaker is now also reaffirming its commitment to ICE setups along with electrification quests, so we're pretty sure the next Cayenne and Panamera will go hybrid and PHEV rather than electric-only.

The Porsche 911 is also set to retain its gasoline mills for as long as possible – with a gradual expansion of the hybrid offer. On the other hand, the company probably can't backtrack the development of the new Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman with EV powertrains because of the regulatory pressure. As such, even the pixel master believes that ICE options won't be possible past 2025 – and has rendered this crimson next-gen 718 Boxster with upgraded looks and a fresh EV heart.

So, what do you think? Will Porsche fail to implement the EV-only 718 Boster and Cayman in the preferences of the public just like it looks set to bomb the popular Macan – which suddenly morphed into an undesirable model?
