The car-making game is simply not enough for most big names in the automotive world, which is why we have various products completely unrelated to the automobile world that have various vehicle-related branding on them, from clothes and gadgets to furniture, accessories, and even bikes.
Speaking of the latter, we should note that Alpine has decided to continue its partnership with Lapierre, which started in 2022, and the two French companies have just launched an entirely new bike. It's called the GLP III SE Alpine Edition and it's an electric mountain bike offered in limited numbers for a hefty price that features some interesting stuff.
Did you notice the livery? Well, it's because you’re probably familiar with Alpine's work. The color codes were inspired by the ones used on the 290_B, A290 study, and the automaker's new BEV urban sports car, and the use of copper on certain elements would probably make Cupra jealous. But that's all right, as the Spanish marque also offers similar products (ahem, bicycles).
According to the car manufacturer, the all-new GLP III SE "is equipped to go faster and further." It benefits from an extended range due to the 800 Wh Bosch PowerPack battery that feeds the Bosch Performance CX Race motor and sports a UD SLI carbon frame. The Fax Float Factory suspension improves the riding experience.
The electric mountain bike has a 38 mm (1.5 in) fork, Mavic E-Deemax wheels with differentiated rims, Shimano XTR piston brakes, Shimano XTR/XT 12v transmission, and a few other bits and bobs. The front and rear travel is 170 mm (6.7 in), and the bike is available in four sizes: S, M, L, and XL. The medium variant has a weight of 23.5 kilograms (pounds).
Alpine and Lapierre state that the new GLS III SE Alpine Edition will be made and sold in Europe, including France, in limited numbers. This means that interested parties should place an order soon should they want the new electric mountain bike, and they should keep in mind that it's far from being a bargain.
In fact, Alpine reveals that it has a suggested retail price of €10,000, including tax, which comes out to $11,170 at the current exchange rates. This sum could land you a nice used car to get you to and fro on a daily basis, but this product is obviously aimed at riding enthusiasts who need an adventurous bike with an electric nature to climb steep hills and trails much easier.
The new Alpine and Lapierre electric mountain bike is said to be available starting this month (August 2024), and it follows in the footsteps of the Aircode DRS SE Alpine Edition that was launched last April. So, what's your take on this two-wheeler?
