The new-gen Mercedes-AMG GT has started following in the footsteps of its open-top sibling, the latest SL, more, as it is now available with the same four-banger in the base specification. It is called the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 and has just touched down in our market.
Pricing begins at $105,900, excluding the $1,150 destination and delivery charge, which may sound like a lot of money, yet it is more affordable than the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe. The latter starts at $120,100, uses a 3.0L six-cylinder unit that steams out 388 horsepower (394 ps/289 kW), does 0-60 miles per hour (97 kph) in 3.9 seconds (3.7s with Sport Chrono Pack), and taps out at 183 mph (295 kph).
Powering the new Mercedes-AMG GT 43 is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder lump with an F1-inspired electric exhaust gas turbocharger. The motor develops 416 horsepower (422 ps/310 kW), so despite featuring two fewer cylinders than its Porsche rival, the forced induction does its trick to make it punchier. However, that doesn't mean it's quicker, as 0-60 mph takes 4.5 seconds.
Standard features include 19-inch AMG wheels, silver brake calipers, a performance exhaust system, sports suspension, Nappa leather upholstery, power heated front seats, a 12.3-inch driver display, an 11.9-inch central multimedia display, Burmester audio, a 360-degree camera system, a wireless charging pad, wireless smartphone integration, blind spot assist, and others.
Customers can optionally choose the AMG Night Package, AMG Extended Night Package, AMG Exterior Chrome Package, Driver Assistance Package, AMG Ride Control suspension, larger wheels, a superior sound system, an AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather/microfiber or microfiber/carbon fiber, massaged front seats, ventilated front seats, and a head-up display.
Those looking for a bit more excitement can order the Mercedes-AMG GT 55. It uses a handcrafted V8 bi-turbo mill rated at 469 hp (476 ps/350 kW), takes 3.8 seconds to reach sixty miles an hour, and kicks off from $137,550 for the 2025 model year in the United States. Thus, it is one-tenth of a second faster than the base Porsche 911 Carrera unless the latter features the optional Sport Chrono Package.
Sitting at the top of the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT family is the GT 63. This variant has an MSRP of $179,050 and also uses a handcrafted bi-turbo 4.0L V8, albeit with more power than the GT 55. The motor develops 577 horsepower (585 ps/430 kW) and 590 pound-foot (800 Nm) of torque, with the peak output available from 5,500 to 6,500 rpm and the thrust between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm. The extra oomph enables 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds.
Mercedes' US website reveals that the SL 43 Roadster starts at $111,950 and the SL 55 at $144,650. The German car manufacturer has yet to release the SL 63 and SL 63 S E Performance pricing.
