Lift Aircraft has officially confirmed that Japan is the first country outside the US to have a Hexa personal eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) available to the public.
Electric air mobility is one of the most exciting, innovative niches in air transportation, particularly when it comes to personal mobility flight. For the first time ever, people have the chance to experience piloting an aircraft without having to be professional pilots. The democratization of flight is a real thing, and it's becoming widely available thanks to a handful of aviation startups online that are developing and certifying personal eVTOLs.

The Austin-based Lift Aircraft claims it was the first in the world to offer eVTOL pay-per-flight experiences. The American public was invited to find out what it's like to fly the Hexa aircraft. Hexa is an ultra-light single-seat eVTOL designed for personal use. It's powered by 18 motors and is meant for short-distance flights of up to 15 minutes. The Hexa is easily recognizable due to its unusual fully open cockpit and wingless body.

Soon, the Japanese public will also gain access to these pioneering pay-per-flight experiences. Marubeni Aerospace (part of the trading company Marubeni Group, backed by Warren Buffet) is now officially licensed to operate Lift's pay-per-flight business in Japan. It will be known as Lift Japan, and it's scheduled to be launched officially at the upcoming World Expo 2025 in Osaka.

This announcement confirms Japan as only the second country, in addition to the US, where eVTOL training and flying is available to the general public.

Earlier this year, Lift began its first public US tour. All those interested in this pay-per-flight experience were invited to book a flight on the company's website or app. Next, they would undergo ground training, including a virtual reality simulator, before taking off in the Hexa eVTOL.

Unlike the other few personal eVTOLs on the market, which are only available for purchase and require a considerable investment, the Hexa is much more accessible through this pay-per-flight concept. Folks don't need to order the eVTOL; they can just sign up for a one-time flight and see what that's like.

Lift Aircraft's upcoming debut on the Japanese market follows successful flight demonstrations that were previously carried out in Osaka. In 2023, Hexa took to the sky for the first time in Japan, and it was the first of its kind to complete a manned flight in this country. That trailblazing flight kicked off a bigger demonstration tour in Japan and will come full circle next year. The World Expo that's taking place in Osaka is gearing up to be one of the most exciting events for AAM (Advanced Air Mobility), with numerous players in the industry set to make their official debuts or carry out demonstration flights.
