Bad things can happen to the best of us - when we least expect it, too. That's probably the one thing celebrities and non-famous people have in common. Just ask Ben Affleck.
The Batman actor is perhaps one of the most photographed actors in showbiz right now, despite his best efforts to escape the paparazzi and, implicitly, the tabloid media. Because of this, he's also earning quite a reputation online as a guy who runs into car trouble quite often, be it fender benders, minor crashes, or running out of luck – and gas – while on his way.
This also happened over the weekend while Affleck was at the wheel of his virtually new electrified Ford Bronco. According to one celebrity publication, the actor was in the company of his son and presumably on their way to an important appointment given that they were both dressed in matching blue suits, when the Bronco either ran out of juice or had some sort of breakdown.
Whatever the cause for the mishap, it resulted in the father-son duo being temporarily stranded on the Los Angeles freeway. They spent their time scrolling on their phones, grabbing refreshments from a nearby gas station, and probably hailing an Uber in the end: the same report notes that the roadside assistance team dispatched loaded the Bronco onto the platform and towed it away.
That Bronco, painted a gorgeous shade of Seafoam Green, has actually been in Affleck's garage since the summer of 2022, when he got it as a 50th birthday present from his then-wife Jennifer Lopez. The two are now in the middle of a reportedly acrimonious divorce, but his love for the Bronco burns bright – though not without hiccups.
Under the retro exterior of the first-gen Bronco is actually a very modern and green mode of transportation. Seth Burgett of Illinois-based Gateway Bronco confirmed to the media that it was one of their electrified vehicles and that Lopez herself picked the top-of-the-range model on offer, the Luxe-GT, for Ben. He took delivery of it one day before his birthday.
The electrified Bronco starts at nearly half a million dollars ($465,000, if you want to put an exact figure on it) and draws power from an electric motor that generates 400+ hp (406+ PS) and takes it from zero to 60 mph (97 kph) in approximately 4 seconds. Estimated range is 300 miles (483 km) on a single charge, which should be enough to prevent mishaps like this one – assuming the report that it ran out of juice is anything to go by.
Because of Affleck's track record of getting into car trouble, this latest incident sparked a new wave of memes and plenty of (quite harsh) jokes at his expense on social media, neither of which would please him.
