Since 2005, the Association of Automotive Tuners in Germany (VDAT) and the Federal Minister of Transport put their touch on the Essen Motor Show with tuning jobs of police cars. For the 2015 edition of the largest tuning show in Germany, the TUNE IT! SAFE! folks police-ified an American sports car.
TUNE IT! SAFE! with the aid of tuning outfit TIKT Performance made this Chevrolet Corvette Stingray happen and would you just look at it! Law and order is written all over it, albeit in German. Starting with grey-painted 19-inch RR-1 forged alloy wheels at the front and 20-inch rollers at the rear, this C7 Corvette is shod in Hankook Ventus 1 evo rubber for superior grip.
The two-tone police livery replicates the metallic silver and glossy blue of Autobahnpolizei cars. Even the POLIZEI on the hood, doors, and rear of the Corvette is written in the same font as seen on the vehicles used by the German highway patrol. The Hella police lighting and the carbon fiber body kit (front lip spoiler, side skirts, fender flares, and rear spoiler) round off this modified Corvette nicely.
Once you hop inside the TUNE IT! SAFE! Corvette, you’ll be surprised to find that everything is standard except for one detail found on the center armrest - the hand held siren & light controller. As for the 7-speed manual transmission, the cog-swapper is mated to an awe-inspiring LT1 small-block V8 engine.
In European money, that’s 6.2 liters of God Bless America, 466 PS (460 horsepower) and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to the generous power produced by the overhead valve tower-of-power, 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes less than 4 seconds. Mind you, if this had been a real police car, it’s ace of spades would’ve been its top speed. That’s what the Polizei needs on unrestricted Autobahn sections to catch the baddies.
