We've dedicated countless stories to the C8 generation Chevrolet Corvette long before it entered production almost five years ago (how time flies!), and we will keep writing about it every time we come across an example that either does interesting stuff or simply looks the part – like the one pictured below.
As stated in the title, it's a Z06 version of the latest-gen Chevrolet Corvette, and that alone should be enough to get your heart racing. After all, who does not want a rear mid-engined track-focused machine with tail-happy skills and a punchy V8 motor? And no, your grandmother obviously does not count, and neither does your cat.
Forget supercars, as the C8-based Corvette Z06 is faster than certain hypercars up to a point. With a skilled person holding the wheel, it can reach 60 miles an hour (97 kph) quicker than you can say its full name (unless you're Eminem). The sprint is dealt with in just 2.6 seconds, and it takes 10.6 seconds to run the quarter mile at 131 miles an hour (211 kph).
Mounted behind the seats is a flat-plane crank V8 motor that was developed with Ferrari's indirect expertise. You can read all about that here, yet after reminding that the engine churns out 460 pound-foot (624 Nm) of torque and 670 horsepower (680 ps/500 kW). This unit has a lot in common with the 5.5L twin-turbo V8 powering the all-new ZR1, which boasts 1,064 hp (1,079 ps/794 kW).
The C8 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 begins at $112,100 in our market. Thus, the MSRP is $5,200 higher than the E-Ray, which is the first-ever Corvette to feature partial electrification and all-wheel drive. The entry-level Stingray is much more affordable at $68,300. However, you'd have to be really lucky to come across a brand-new one in dealer lots for that kind of money, as the markups will probably make you pick something else.
Now that we've reminded ourselves about the C8 Corvette family, it's time to put the spotlight on the pictured Z06, which rocks a great and simple spec. It's finished in red, features the usual black accents, and rides on a set of Vossens. The new wheels are called the S21-02 and start at $2,400 each for the 19-inch variant, adding $100 per alloy with each inch above it. Thus, a complete 24-inch set will set you back $11,600. Interested parties can pick one of the 48 paint finishes available, as well as Vossen-branded valve stem caps and billet sport center caps.
We don't know about you, but we tend to like our cars quite simple, preferably with only a few discreet modifications, and this Chevy Corvette Z06 fits the bill. Thus, it's one of our favorites yet. But what would you do to the Z06 if you had one to make it stand out more?
