After successfully introducing the third generation of the Dacia Duster, the Romanian automaker launched its largest vehicle yet, the Bigster, at the 2024 Paris Motor Show.
The Romanian automaker, bought by Renault in 1999, was determined to evolve constantly and expand its range of vehicles, and the Bigster was a significant model in the brand’s history. It was the longest car produced by Dacia to that date and relied on the same platform as the third generation of Duster, which was already a sought-after model. Along with the new Bigster, customers were able to get more features and amenities than in any other Dacia before. Furthermore, the French car manufacturer had high hopes for the new vehicle in the compact crossover segment, attacking other well-established European brands and, thanks to the lower prices, even some Asian ones.
At the front, the automaker kept the same design language seen on the Duster lineup. Its slim headlights feature double horizontal LED daytime running lights placed above the high- and low-beam lamps. They flanked a grille adorned by four double lines and the brand’s badge installed in the middle. Below, on the fat bumper, the automaker installed a large center air intake featuring horizontal slats and skid plates at the bottom of the apron.
The bold profile of the 2024 Dacia Bigster revealed tall door panels and a greenhouse with an available contrasting color. Dacia’s design team placed flared fenders adorned by black plastic molding around the wheel arches. To further emphasize the car’s off-road abilities, the automaker installed black plastic side sills. Like its Duster sibling, the Bigster featured concealed door handles in the C-posts for the rear doors and an angled-up third row of windows next to the trunk area. At the back, the automaker installed horizontal Y-shaped taillights that flanked the wide tailgate, with available electric opening, a first for the Romanian car manufacturer. Under the rear bumper, the automaker also installed unpainted plastic skid plates.
Inside, the automaker put a broad and flat dashboard adorned by horizontal elements that made the car look wider. Furthermore, the side vents sported Y-shaped trims, resembling the DRLs and the taillights. Fronting the driver was a 7- or 10-inch instrument panel, depending on the grade. In addition, customers got a 10.1-inch touchscreen placed atop the center stack across the range. Between the front bucket seats, the 2024 Dacia Bigster featured a choice of three center consoles, depending on the trim level. The top version even had a center armrest with a refrigerated cubby underneath, a first for Dacia. At the back, the car manufacturer installed a split-folding (40/20/40) bench seat that could expand the trunk.
At the time of launch, the 2024 Dacia Bigster was available with a choice of three drivetrains. The base version was a 1.2-liter turbocharged inline-three powerhouse paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. It was available with front or all-wheel drive systems. The other two options were a 140 PS (138 hp) mild-hybrid and a 155 PS (153 hp) full-hybrid system, which was an improved version of the MHEV version already installed in the Bigster’s smaller brother, the 2024 Duster.
