We're used to seeing the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 put its money where its mouth is, either by going for insane top-speed runs or by engaging in quarter-mile battles against equally powerful opponents. However, this copy has become famous for something quite shameful.
A short video recently shared online by supercar.fails, which quotes 469_teamtornado, shows the mighty muscle car burning rubber while driving straight on a narrow street. Leaving the reckless part aside, which is nothing that we haven't seen before, it seemed that the vehicle would stop in front of the camera, with the tire haze catching up to it, perhaps for internet fame.
However, it all went horribly wrong, as the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 ended up pointing its nose to the left as the rear axle lost traction. The driver did the obvious, which was lifting off the gas. Nonetheless, it was already too late, as the monstrous ride ended up hitting two parked cars. As if nothing happened, the driver then reversed, narrowly avoiding backing up into a pole, and then calmly drove away the same way it came.
This is where the video ends, though we hope the person who was abusing this insane muscle car on a public road stopped and left a note for the owners of the two parked cars. If the muscle car driver hasn't already, they will likely lose their license after being charged with reckless driving. We hope they weren't charged with a hit-and-run, as it would add more headaches, albeit everything could have been avoided if the driver played it safe.
We will remind you that the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 represented a whole new level of muscle car insanity. Dodge opened the gates of hell by unveiling it almost two years ago. The vehicle is capable of smoking a whole bunch of hypercars in straight-line acceleration, albeit with some pre-race prepping and a very skilled driver holding the wheel – not like the one who crashed the example you're about to watch on video below.
According to the muscle car's spec sheet, the Demon 170 can run the 1/4-mile at 151.17 miles per hour (243.28 kph) in just 8.91 seconds. Yep, that's an 8, not a 9. The 0-60 mph takes a whopping 1.66 seconds. In its top configuration, the 6.2L V8 supercharged lump pumps out an insane 1,025 horsepower (1,039 ps/764 kW) and 945 pound-feet (1,280 Nm) of torque. That's on E85, as the output and thrust drops to 900 hp (913 ps/671 kW) and 810 lb-ft (1,097 Nm) on E10.
The dizzying performance makes this model a dream ride and a common presence at drag strips nationwide. It's too bad that certain owners tend to show off on public roads.
