Ford introduced the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse in late 2022 as a high-spec version of the famous pony car, and besides some aesthetic upgrades, it also fitted with the most potent Coyote engine to that date.
Ever since the 1964 ½ model-year, the Mustang has been part of the American car culture. Over time, the automaker created various versions, offering more power and performance for this iconic pony car. It was, actually, the car that made this segment.
Based on the all-new 2024 Mustang, the Dark Horse featured specific accents, such as the dark pony on the grille and specific badges that showed a horse head on the trunk and on the car's sides. Ford also offered a set of carbon-fiber wheels beside the 19" alloy wheels fitted as standard. The hood featured a few air intakes that helped the engine breathe more easily. In addition, the lower bumper sported a set of side scoops that cooled the front brakes and a large center grille filled with a honeycomb pattern. At the short deck, on the back, the automaker also added a functional wing.
Inside, the fully digital instrument panel was accompanied by a wide touch-screen for the infotainment display, which also controlled various car functions. That change also meant no double-bubble design, as seen in any previous generation Mustang. At the front, the automaker installed a pair of Recaro sports seats, hinting at the track-ready designation of the car. In addition, next to the driver, Ford installed a lever for the handbrake. Even though it was actually a switch, not a mechanical e-brake, it acted like one, especially in the drift mode car setting.
Under the hood, Ford placed the most powerful naturally aspirated Coyote engine to that date. It offered 500 hp (507 PS) from the five-liter displacement. It was paired with either a six-speed Tremec manual gearbox or a ten-speed automatic.
