GMC launched a second refresh for its compact crossover Terrain model for the 2025 model year, and besides some usual exterior updates, it dramatically improved the interior with high-tech features.

The American automaker launched the second generation of the compact crossover Terrain in 2017 for the 2018 model year. Just three years later, GMC unveiled the first refresh for the model. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic soon started, and the vehicle's market launch was postponed for a year until 2021. However, this didn't stop the brand from continuously working on the car and improving it, and as a result, it unveiled the second facelift for the model in the summer of 2024 for the 2025 model year. Furthermore, it didn't just draw a few new lines on the exterior and add a different color scheme inside. It properly updated the vehicle in all areas: the exterior, the interior, and the drivetrain.

While not as dramatically changed as the previous facelifted version, the 2025 GMC Terrain sported fresh headlights with LED daytime running lights on the outer sides and an animated lighting pattern that enhanced the car's presence on the road. They flanked a redesigned grille that resembled the one from its bigger brothers, the Yukon and the Denali. Depending on the grade, the 2025 Terrain had either a blacked-out front fascia or one adorned by chromed details on the grille and the lower side of the bumper.

The 2025 GMC Terrain was about two inches (5 cm) wider than its predecessor, one inch shorter, and one taller than the previous model. The entry-level version was the Elevation, which replaced the previous SLE and SLT grades, while the AT4 and the Denali were on the upper side of the spectrum. GMC offered the car with standard 17-inch alloy wheels and options for up to 20-inch sets. In addition, the car manufacturer promised that changes wouldn't stop there and that an AT4 and a Denali grade would follow. Along with the updated version, the compact premium crossover became available with a blacked-out color scheme, albeit with a gray contrasting roof. At the back, GMC introduced new, C-shaped LED taillights that echoed the DRLs from the headlights.

The interior was significantly improved. Gone were the analog dials from the instrument cluster since GMC replaced them with an 11-inch configurable display. Furthermore, the dashboard design was also changed, featuring a squared visor over the panel and an extension above the center stack with two squared-looking center vents. A significant difference was made in the new infotainment unit, featuring a 15-inch touchscreen, portrait mode with Google built-in, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot. GMC didn't follow other carmakers' trends in deleting the physical buttons and placing them at the bottom of the main display. Furthermore, a round volume knob was neatly integrated into the lower side of the screen. The front bucket seats were separated by a tall center console featuring an armrest with integrated wireless charging and generous cubby storage. In the back, a 60/40 split-folding bench seat expanded trunk space, and thanks to the flat-folding front passenger seat, the 2025 GMC Terrain could load items up to 8 ft (2.4 meters) long.

Under the hood, GMC installed the same inline-three turbocharged engine as the 2021 model year, albeit with its power increased by five ponies, reaching 175 hp (177 PS). The engine was paired with a CVT for front-wheel-drive versions, while the all-wheel-drive ones were fitted with a new, eight-speed automatic gearbox. The automaker also added more safety systems, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and bicyclist detection. Those who wanted to tow something behind the vehicle were still limited to a 1,500 lbs (680 kg) limit.
