The G700 is one of the newest planes developed by the business jet gurus from Gulfstream. In service since 2019, the plane somehow managed to constantly remain in the news, not necessarily thanks to the people it carries (including Jeff Bezos), but on account of the many speed records listed to its name.
Gulfstream has a real passion for letting us know every time one of its planes breaks some kind of city pair record. That would be a recognition of a plane's ability to travel the fastest in its class from one city to another.

At the beginning of this year, for instance, the G700 had no less than 50 such speed records to its name. It jumped over this milestone as it covered the distance between Los Angeles and Singapore (that's a distance of 5,980 miles/9,624 km) in 10 hours and 13 minutes, averaging speeds of Mach 0.90.

In the time that has passed since, the plane broke a whole lot more records. The most recent ones, which we'll tell you about in the lines below, brought that number up to – hold on – no less than 65 such speed records.

Two trips are mentioned by Gulfstream as being added to the roster of such achievements. The first took a G700 from Savannah to Honolulu, meaning a distance of 4,706 miles (7,574 km), in eight hours and 52 minutes. The plane averaged the same speed as before, Mach 0.90, and it traveled using a blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The second achievement belongs to an aircraft that flew the 7,488-mile (12,051 km) distance between Los Angeles and Sydney in 14 hours and 26 minutes. Gulfstream doesn't say anything about average speeds, but it's probably clear by now what to expect.

Both trips mentioned above took place at an undisclosed time, and the records set taking them are yet to be approved by the U.S. National Aeronautic Association and the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. Yet that's only a formality, so the company is now confident it can claim 65 speed records for the G700.

How does the plane manage to travel so fast and for so long? That's owed not in small part to the pair of Rolls-Royce engines that power it. When run at full power, they can push the plane forward at speeds of up to Mach 0.935 (717 mph/1,155 kph). That makes it the fastest airplane in the Gulfstream fleet, but what's even more remarkable is that it can keep it up for as much as 8,919 miles (14,353 km).

On top of it all, the plane offers the "most spacious cabin in the industry," made to look even more so to its occupants by the 20 panoramic oval windows that adorn its sides. If only all of us could spend $80 million on one to be able to enjoy all that...
