Honda Racing Corporation's new business target is developing "authentic performance parts for customer use for street, track, and off-road applications." They kick off the proceeds with a modified Pilot three-row mid-size crossover SUV to showcase the possible off-road equipment ideas.
Formerly known as Honda Performance Development (HPD), the North American motor racing division for both Honda and Acura of American Honda is now labeled Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US). Their usual mo. has been winning races and championships on and off the road for the past three decades. Now, they want to use that extensive experience to create a fresh line of performance parts for retail customers.
Everything started with the "strong interest" surrounding the Acura Integra Type S HRC Prototype that was showcased at the Monterey Car Week this summer. Based on its reception, HRC is now moving forward with the promised introduction of fresh lines of authentic performance parts developed specifically for retail consumers in North America. The first prototypes will arrive early next year, and before that, HRC will give us a quick preview at the 2024 edition of the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada (November 5-9).
"HRC US has been winning races and championships on and off-road for three decades, and we're excited to apply this experience to new lines of performance parts for Honda and Acura enthusiasts eager to augment their performance driving experience," said Jon Ikeda, senior vice president, HRC US. "To be an HRC genuine part, it must meet our exacting standards while functionally improving vehicle performance and the driving experience."
HRC has prepared no less than nine special projects and racing vehicles at the SEMA Show, including an Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 Formula 1 car and, most importantly, the Honda Pilot HRC Prototype. The latter was fitted with "experimental" products designed to increase the off-road capabilities of the family-oriented three-row crossover SUV. Additionally, also on display are the Acura ARX-06 electrified endurance prototype for the 2024 IMSA GTP category, a Honda IndyCar, the Ridgeline Baja Race Truck, the CR-V Hybrid Racer, the Integra Type S HRC Prototype, an Integra Type S DE5 Race Car, as well as the HRC Honda Civic Type R Pace Car.
Honda and Acura have a lot of novelties incoming, too, even though they're not necessarily related to the 2024 SEMA Show. Acura might finally resurrect the RSX, according to the rumor mill, which found out about a trademark filling in Japan, and in America, they're preparing to introduce the new base crossover SUV dubbed ADX. On the other hand, Honda is battling some big recalls in the US and wants to deflect customer attention from that with the eagerly-awaited 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport mid-size two-row crossover SUV that's been testing around Moab recently.
