I woke up to two exciting messages on Social Media today. One informed me that I would soon take delivery of a very special diecast RX-7. The other opened the door to a new manufacturer I'd never experienced before.
I will, of course, show you photos of both items in due time, and the latter might even get a video review from our team. November is a busy month in the industry, as Christmas is coming up in just over 40 days from now. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Hot Wheels enthusiasts will appreciate any gift that's connected to their hobby. But finding the right item that will truly make them happy is a bit more difficult.
The best way to do things is to check with them and see what's on their Must-Have list. The other way is to buy a premium/RLC/Elite 64 model representing a car you know they love. This option may not be as easily accessible to everyone, as you can't always walk into a toy store and find them there (especially with the RLC and the Elite 64).
But the Internet can be your friend if you know how to use it. Or even better yet, talk to one of your loved one's collector buddies and get him involved in finding the right present. If you have been reading my stories, you might know we're about to get a new product on Mattel Creations: the Red Line Club exclusive Porsche 959!
The Matchbox Collectors 1979 Chevy Blazer will go live on November 21, and you can also opt for the Hot Wheels 1964 Dodger W200 Power Wagon on November 26. Just read the product description, including information about delivery times, if you want to have them for Christmas. While we have had several iterations of the Porsche 959, the Dodge Power Wagon is a brand-new casting.
That's big news, but not as big as what's coming up in the Elite 64 line in a few days. I have already shown you a sneak peek of the Freightliner Cascadia, and it could be the most exciting Hot Wheels casting Mattel has released in 2024. Its size is part of the equation, weighing almost one pound (449 grams). That's nearly three times as heavy as the Team Transport Euro Hauler, which is still bigger than a normal Hot Wheels casting.
I've had my doubts about the Elite 64 line in the past, and there are only a few collectibles in the series that I truly like. Someone who enjoyed last year's Modified '69 Ford Mustang might not appreciate receiving a Pandem Datsun 280ZX as a gift. But I think every single Hot Wheels collector out there would love to have the Freightliner Cascadia on display.
It can transport up to six cars, and they don't necessarily need to be Elite 64 models! I'd be happy to have it even without the trailer, and I don't think we've ever had a Hot Wheels model with 16 Real Riders wheels before. The truck also features side mirrors, the lack of which is a huge complaint in the Premium series.
The movable, fold-down ramp is great, but wouldn't it have been even more exciting if the truck had opening doors? The newest Elite 64 model for 2024 goes live on November 14 at 9 AM PT. Given its size, it's no wonder it will cost $50. And you also need to consider the shipping cost, plus the taxes you must have if you live outside of the US.
A few people are trying to sell the truck for $165 on eBay. Don't fall into that trap! It is not a limited production model, although I'm not 100% sure it won't sell out within the first 24 hours since going live. And even if it does, chances are you can still get it for $70 or less within the next six months.
