Mahindra is a carmaker with a complex history, one that dates back before India achieved its independence. It all started out as a steel business in 1945 and one decade later the company entered the automotive scene, assembling Willys Jeeps in India. These also brought a designation change, with the company becoming known as Mahindra & Mahindra, as it was owned by two brothers.
The company kept evolving, playing in the utilitarian part of the car world by producing tractors and light commercial vehicles. Mahindra’s vehicles aim to be rugged and to offer all-terrain abilities, in order to meet the specific requirements of the Indian market.
Nowadays the carmaker is part of the Mahindra Group, an corporation with international reach that handles multiple areas of business. The automaker also owns the South Korean carmaker SsangYong. Mahindra ‘s current range of vehicles includes sedans, SUVs, pickups, commercial vehicles, tractors, as well as motorcycles.
