history
Geely is a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer founded on November 6, 1986 which was initially focused on producing refrigerators and decoration materials. After eight years since it was founded, the company entered the motorcycle manufacturing market.
What's interesting is that during the same year Geely came out with the first scooter ever manufactured in China, a scooter which recorded impressive sales. For instance, after one year since its launch, the scooter was already sold in 60,000 units while in 1996 the sales reached 200,000 units.
Since the company recorded a remarkable success in the motorcycle manufacturing market, Geely decided to enter the automobile industry in 1997. One year later, on August 8, the first car produced by Geely was officially rolled out on the market.
The interesting fact is that the company continuously struggled to improve its presence on the automobile market so in 2002, it signed a deal with Daewoo International and with Maggiora in order to develop new projects.
Moreover, on January 28, 2003, the company built another plant in Taizhou, a factory which was supposed to produce no less than 300,000 cars per year. During the same year but in April, Geely reached another important milestone: the one hundred thousand car manufactured by the company was officially introduced on the market.
Geely had pretty impressive numbers in 2003 because it managed to produce no less than 34360 cars which helped it gain approximately 3.8 percent of the total car industry. Moreover, the company gained a share of 13 points of the sedan cars industry which underlines, once again, that Geely has the ability to come up with some pretty successful models.
For the next few years, the company aims to launch multiple new and improved motorcycles and cars, equipped with both advanced engines and high-end functions.
