history
Hero Motocorp Ltd., formerly known as Hero Honda, is India's largest motorcycle manufacturer, with a market share of around 46%, and is also the biggest manufacturer in the world, when it comes to production numbers. The company came into being in 1984 when the Hero Cycles company joined forces with Honda, to take the Indian two-wheeler market by storm, a partnership that lasted until 2010.
As a result of the schism between the two companies, in August 2011 the company was renamed and bears the same name today. It currently has four manufacturing facilities across India, which, together, produce about 7.6 million motorcycles per year.
As expected for the Indian market, this company mainly focuses on small-displacement, affordable and fuel-efficient machines, but also offers high-performance ones, which still are heavily rooted in their Japanese ancestry.
In 2015, Hero Motocorp acquired all the projects in development from Erik Buell Racing, after EBR went into receivership. It is expected that Hero Motocorp releases new models inspired by the collaboration with the American builder.
