LAVERDA 750 GT "American Eagle" (1970-1971) Specs, Performance & Photos

The Italian motorcycle maker introduced the 1970 Laverda 750 GT “American Eagle," a motorcycle designed as a classic American cruiser with enhanced touring capabilities. It was one of the most popular and famous motorcycles from the Italian brand.

Laverda, also known as Moto Laverda SAS – Dottore Francesco Laverda e fratelli, was an Italian high-performance motorcycle manufacturer known for its robust and innovative machines.

Laverda's roots go back to 1873 when the founder Pietro Laverda decided to start an agricultural engines enterprise called Laverda S.p.A. It was located in the small village of Breganze in Vicenza province, North-East of Italy.

The bike's visual department was complemented by standard features like a round headlight up front, two analog instruments, a fuel tank rack, a one-piece dual seat, a two-into-two exhaust system, and wire-spoke wheels.

The riding characteristics were set by a Marzocchi telescopic fork on the front and a dual-sided swingarm with two side-mounted shocks on the rear.

Regarding braking power, the motorcycle's wire-spoke wheels were fitted with a 230 mm drum unit on the front and a 200 mm drum unit on the rear, offering optimum stopping capabilities.

At its core, the 1970 Laverda 750 GT "American Eagle" had installed a 753cc air-cooled four-stroke twin-cylinder engine fed by two 30 mm Dell'Orto VHB carburetors. It generated 52 hp with a peak at 6,900 rpm.
