Laverda, also known as Moto Laverda SAS – Dottore Francesco Laverda e fratelli, was an Italian high-performance motorcycle manufacturer known for its robust and innovative machines.
One of many motorcycles in Laverda's range was the Laverda 1000, a series of 981cc motorcycles produced from 1973 until 1989. The Laverda 1000 was the base model for many models with different characteristics.
One of these was the Laverda SFC 1000, a replacement model for the RGS. It debuted in 1985, featuring red-finished bodywork, upgraded brakes and suspension, and different gauges.
The SFC model used the Corsa high-performance engine, and the frame and fork were painted gold. Compared to the Corsa model, the SFC was lighter due to the revised bodywork, swingarm, wheels, and fork.
In 2002, when Aprilia had already taken over Laverda, a prototype of the new Laverda SFC 1000 was presented at the Bologna Motor Show. It was based on the Aprilia RSV Mille with a V-twin engine but never went into production.
The riding characteristics were set by a 43 mm adjustable Ohlins telescopic fork on the front and an aluminum swingarm with an adjustable Ohlins shock on the rear.
Underneath its fuel tank, the 2002 Laverda SFC 1000 had installed a 998cc four-stroke V-twin liquid-cooled engine with a fuel injection system in charge. It boasted 110 hp at 10,000 rpm and 104 Nm (77 lb-ft) torque at 7,500 rpm.
