Since hybrid models are often described as the only models capable of keeping large automakers in business, most companies concentrate on these fuel-efficient models as part of their future development plans. Lexus makes no exception to the rule and today unveils the so-called world's first dedicated luxury hybrid, 2010 HS 250h. Even though this is the fourth hybrid model manufactured by Lexus, it's the most-efficient vehicle in its lineup, the automaker said in a press statement.
“A welcomed addition to Lexus’ entry-luxury sedan lineup, the HS 250h fits nicely between the IS luxury sport sedan and the ES luxury sedan,” Lexus stated, explaining that this new hybrid make have a great success in the market as a recent study has shown that more than 60 percent of entry-luxury car buyers would have purchased a hybrid if available.
"Equipped with Lexus’ first four-cylinder gas engine, the 2.4-liter Atkinson-cycle powerplant is part of the latest Lexus Hybrid Drive System," the press release read. The whole system generates 187 horsewpoer with fuel economy expected to be 30 percent better than the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the company's vehicle range. But beside all these systems, the HS 250h incorporates several innovations aimed at reducing overall fuel consumption.
“The exhaust heat recovery system reduces engine warm-up time, thus allowing it to stop earlier, more often, and for longer periods. A windshield with infrared-ray (IR) reduction properties, which helps keep the interior more cool, has been adopted in order to decrease the amount of air conditioning needed to lower the cabin temperature. In addition to the exhaust heat recovery system and the IR windshield, available power-saving LED headlamps also contribute to improved fuel efficiency and emissions,” Lexus explained.
Speaking of safety, the new Lexus has 10 standard airbags plus active front headrests, Vehicle Stability Control and Pre-Collision System with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control available as optional. Safety Connect, which provides automatic accident notification and tracks vehicle locations, comes as optional too.
