Lincoln unveiled the second generation of its mid-size luxury crossover Nautilus for the U.S. market in early March 2023 for the 2024 model year, which came with significant improvements for the American brand.

When Lincoln decided to drop the three-letter nameplate from its vehicles and use actual names, it also made significant modifications to the vehicles that followed. However, the first Nautilus was more of a facelifted version of the second generation of the MKX mid-size luxury crossover. Both of them shared the same platforms, overall dimensions, and drivetrains. Sure, there were some exterior and interior changes, but that didn’t make the first Nautilus a genuinely new model in the carmaker’s stable.

Its redesigned front fascia boasted a broad grille with a black background mesh and chromed dots with a 3D effect. The brand’s badge was in the upper-middle section and looked like it was supported by a pair of horizontal slats featuring LED lighting. Furthermore, the automaker installed a pair of headlights adorned on their outer sides with daytime running lights. Lower on the bumper, the car manufacturer added side scoops that formed the air curtains around the bodywork and lower drag.

The carmaker’s R&D teams from the U.S. and China burned the midnight oil to create the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus in just 18 months from scratch to production. It was a massive effort for them. The mid-size luxury crossover also marked a new starting point in terms of design language, and the profile was part of this. From a distance, some might say that it resembled a Range Rover Sport with its raked windshield and the sloped-down roofline. At the back, the raked-forward tailgate sported a roof spoiler at its upper side. The door handles were placed at the lower side of the window line, similar to those from the tenth generation of the Lincoln Continental. Finally, at the back, the LED taillights with dynamic lights that crossed the tailgate over a red stripe made the Nautilus stand apart from its competition.

However, the interior was revolutionary. It resembled the one from the 2022 Lincoln Zephyr, featuring a broad curved display stretched between the A-pillars, sitting on the dashboard, but it was placed far from the front seats, at the bottom of the windshield. The touchscreen for the infotainment unit was atop the center stack in a free-floating position, and below it were the buttons for the automatic gearbox. Fronting the driver was an oval-shaped steering wheel with two horizontal stalks. The front bucket seats with multiple adjustments were already some of the best in the business, and customers loved them. Between the front occupants, Lincoln installed a broad center console with a sliding cover for the cup holders and a tall armrest with storage underneath. In the back, there was plenty of legroom and headroom, even for taller people. Furthermore, they could recline or fold flat to expand the trunk space.

Under its skin, the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus concealed a two-liter turbocharged engine that sent its power in all corners via an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. In addition, the automaker offered a hybrid drivetrain that consisted of a 2.0-liter turbocharged powerhouse paired with a CVT that integrated a 134 hp (100 kW) motor. This version was also fitted with standard all-wheel drive.
