In late 2023, Lucid unveiled its second product, the three-row SUV Gravity, a vehicle that was aimed at electric-car fans who wanted a luxurious and zero-emissions vehicle.
Even though it shared some of the features offered on the company’s first product, the Air, the Gravity relied on a newly developed platform created exclusively for this SUV. Parts of the electronic systems were moved towards the front of the vehicle, and as a result, Lucid was able to offer a more spacious interior. Moreover, all the elements designed for the vehicle were developed in-house by the American brand, and nothing was bought off the shelf from other suppliers, including the infotainment’s operation system.
At the front, the full-size SUV showed a fascia that resembled the one offered on the Air model. It featured a small gap below the hood where Lucid installed the LED headlights. Underneath, a broad panel with a horizontal recessed mid-section created a dynamic look for the vehicle, and, at the bottom, on the apron, the automaker placed the trapezoidal-shaped grille needed to cool the batteries and the electronic system. The recessed section was flanked by triangular scoops that housed the LED daytime running lights and a set of air intakes.
From its profile, the Gravity featured a clean surface with retractable door handles for the doors and body-colored door mirror caps. Both the B- and the C-pillars were black, and like on the Air, there were no frames for the side windows. Between the rear doors and the raked-forward D-pillars, Lucid installed a third row of windows next to the rearmost seats. With its slightly curved and sloped roofline for the Gravity, Lucid created a muscular and aerodynamic stance for the big SUV. The last pillars were wider on their upper side and created the look of a floating roof design. Finally, at the back, the raked forward rear window was concealed by the big, wrap-around roof spoiler that was extended downwards on the tailgate. A single, long line of LEDs formed the taillights.
Inside, the Gravity was luxurious and provided ample legroom and headroom for up to seven passengers in a 2-3-2 configuration. There was not tons of room for the rearmost passengers, but it was still suitable, especially for short trips. Both the middle and the third rows could collapse and expand the trunk space up to 112 cu-ft (3,171 liters). At the front, the comfortable bolstered seats were separated by a wide center console fitted with several storage areas and an armrest. On the dashboard, Lucid installed a 34” curved screen above on a raised position, so drivers didn’t have to look through or around the squarish steering wheel. In addition, the center-mounted touchscreen above the center console, in a free-floating position, served as the infotainment center.
