The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq family has just welcomed the addition of the RS (vRS in the UK) model. The sporty flavor features an enhanced look inside and out, chassis revisions, and more power than the rest of the range.
As we already knew, the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq RS packs the same engine as the VW Golf GTI. The 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder unit produces 265 European horses (261 hp/195 kW), 20 ps (20 hp/15 kW) more than its predecessor. The maximum torque is 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).
A 7-speed DSG transmission distributes the thrust to both axles (AWD is standard). According to the Czech automaker, the sporty crossover does 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 6.4 seconds and taps out at 232 kph (144 mph). However, these are preliminary numbers, so something might change by the time the car goes on sale.
Improving the soundtrack is the company's Dynamic Sound Boost. The new Skoda Kodiaq RS also features progressive steering, DCC Plus with 15 settings that adjust the dampers from comfortable to sporty, Comfort, Normal, Sport, Individual, and Snow drive modes, a dedicated Off-Road mode, and uprated brakes with ventilated front and rear discs. Skoda also mentions the two-piston calipers at the front axle on the seven-seater.
Some of the things that set it apart from the rest of the family are the tweaked grille, sportier front and rear bumpers, rear diffuser, and a few other bits and bobs. Skoda has given it a glossy black look on the grille frame, upper parts of the window frames, side mirror casings, and D-pillars. The tailgate logos have a black look, and the new RS emblem decorates the tailgate and grille.
Skoda's all-new Kodiaq RS also comes with polished stainless steel exhaust tips that are visible below the rear bumper and rides on standard 20-inch Elias alloys with a polished black finish. The sporty crossover can be specified in one of the eight exterior paint finishes available, comprising one solid hue and seven metallic ones, including the Bronx Gold Metallic.
Standard gear includes the LED Matrix headlights with animated welcome effect and cornering function, LED taillights with animated indicators, a red decorative strip out back, a horizontal light strip at the front, Kessey Advanced system with Open On Approach and Walk Away Locking, a Canton audio system, and a few other things.
Skoda will offer the 2024 Kodiaq vRS (UK) in the Lounge and Suite trim levels. The former features perforated microsuede artificial leather, electrically adjustable front seats, memory function, ambient lighting, decorative trim strips on the door cards and dashboard, and optional heated rear seats. The latter gets perforated leather and artificial leather, and ventilated front seats.
Full details regarding the pricing and specifications for each market will be announced in due course.
