Nissan’s flagship crossover, the Murano, reached its fourth generation in late 2024 for the 2025 model year, and it came with massive improvement in all areas, continuing the legacy of one of the most unusual vehicles in its class.
The Japanese automaker introduced the first generation of the Murano in 2002, and the crossover surprised customers with its sporty look and rich standard features. Fast forward more than two decades and the Murano was still available, albeit with significant differences. Its engine decreased in size, it finally got a proper automatic transmission, and the luxurious cabin made some people argue if it was a luxury vehicle or just a mass-market one made with upscale touches here and there. The 2025 Nissan Murano came with the same wheelbase as its predecessor, but it was slightly longer. In terms of the technology package, it was groundbreaking even among its siblings. It was penned by the same team that created the Nissan Aryia, and there were many cues that looked like they were carried over from that all-electric model.
At the front, the 2025 Nissan Murano featured slim LED “Crystal Cube” headlights. Below them, on the bumper, the automaker placed the V-shaped daytime running lights arranged in five pairs of horizontal lines. They flanked a black grille where the brand’s badge took center stage. A body-colored horizontal element made a clear distinction between the upper grille and the lower apron, which also integrated an air intake.
Right off the bat, the first generation of the Murano was appreciated by customers for its coupe-shaped look of the greenhouse, and the 2025 Nissan Murano continued that trend. The wide panoramic windshield was continued by a curved roof that was available in piano black. On the sides, the automaker installed flared wheel arches on both ends of the vehicle and sculptured door panels. The waved-shaped ascending waistline of the crossover slightly rose behind the rear doors, underlining the third row of windows placed between the C- and the D-posts. At the back, Nissan’s flagship crossover sported a broad horizontal LED bar that made a connection between them. The wrapped-around plastic bumper placed below the raked-forward tailgate concealed the exhaust pipes and featured a diffuser.
Stepping inside the 2025 Nissan Murano was unique for its customers. The automaker installed a digital curved display consisting of two 12.3-inch screens placed atop the dashboard and in front of the driver. The two-spoke steering wheel gathered several buttons that controlled several functions of the car’s infotainment system. At the front, the automaker installed comfortable, zero-gravity bucket seats. At the same time, those seated in the rear shared a 60/40 split-folding bench seat with legroom and headroom. The infotainment system relied on Google Auto and featured wireless connectivity with iOS or Android Auto mobile phones.
Under the hood, Nissan installed its latest two-liter gasoline engine that featured variable compression ratio for improved performance and fuel efficiency. It was paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission that sent power to the front or in all corners, depending on the trim and options. The electronically-controlled suspension, traction, and power allowed the 2025 Nissan Murano to become a winner in the efficiency battle.
