He's got so many cars that he has started to forget what he already has, what he ordered, and what he wants, but he hasn't made a move yet. That is Shaquille O'Neal, ladies and gentlemen. And he just had his Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with Maybach equipment delivered. However, there was one more Benz that he wanted.
Shaquille O'Neal is definitely a car guy. Just remember he's got a couple of Rolls-Royces and a customized TRX morphed into an Apocalypse truck, among others, and he has recently got his Tesla Cybertruck number 3, as a present from the dealership he always counts on when he wants something special. Because that is what Shaq does. He likes his cars to be heavily customized, head-turning, and unique. So, this is why he ordered this Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
You might associate the Sprinter van with a workhorse or a hauler. But Big Shaq wanted something different. He doesn't need to haul anything but himself. So, he called his favorite customization shop, Effortless Motors, some time ago and asked for a luxury lounge on wheels. Meanwhile, he simply forgot about the order.
The day has come for the vehicle to be delivered, so the Effortless Motors team arrives at Shaq's estate in Atlanta, a 7,400-square-foot property that Shaq bought for $1.15 million back in 2016, to deliver his brand-new Sprinter. It is a Maybach Edition that they set up. Mercedes-Benz does not build a Maybach Sprinter, so everything installed on board is aftermarket.
The sliding door opens to reveal a cabin entirely wrapped in brown leather with beige piping, ambient lighting, and an LCD screen that can show Netflix and YouTube are on board. There is a refrigerator on board to keep the champagne cold, while reclining seats keep the VIP occupant as comfortable as can be.
Shaq had simply forgotten about his order. "That's right, I bought a Sprinter!" he recalled the moment he saw it in his driveway. But the basketball icon fell in love with the S-Class the tuner's staff arrived in. "I'm gonna buy it right now!" Shaq informs the owner.
"Give me an Uber to get back in, and I'll leave that here," says the Effortless Motors owner. Shaq was serious, so the team left without their Benz, which wasn't even a Maybach. It is an S 550, the Instagram post claims. However, the W223 lineup does not include an S 550 for America.
There is either the S 500 4MATIC Sedan powered by the 3.0-liter inline-six engine pumping out 442 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, or the S 580e 4MATIC with the same engine integrated in a plug-in hybrid system. This one comes with 503 horsepower and 553 pound-feet.
Meanwhile, the non-hybridized S 580 4MATIC is set in motion by a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 with 496 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance Sedan sits at the top of the lineup, with its handcrafted 4.0-liter biturbo V8, churning out 791 horsepower and 1,055 pound-feet of torque.
The W222 generation did, however, have an S550 version. It came with the 4.7-liter V8, which is no longer in production, 449 horsepower, and 516 pound-feet of torque. But by the looks of the sedan, the one that Shaquille O'Neal decided to buy on the spot is definitely not it.
