The Czech car manufacturer Skoda introduced the mid-size electric SUV Elroq in October 2024 for the 2025 model year, trying to expand its presence in the EV market.
While sales of electric vehicles were not spectacular, to say the least, automakers still pushed their luck into this segment with more and more attractive vehicles. The 2025 Skoda Elroq was proof of that and tried to impress potential customers with a bold-looking mid-size SUV. While it wasn’t the first electric vehicle made by Skoda, the Elroq replaced the Karoq crossover from the Czech automaker’s lineup. The vehicle relied on the MEB platform developed by Volkswagen for electric vehicles and shared its underpinnings with the Volkswagen ID.4, the Audi Q5 e-tron, and the Ford Explorer EV.
The 2025 Skoda Elroq had a sharp look with a narrow grille pinched in the center area. On its sides, the automaker placed the thin LED daytime running lights arranged in four distinct blocks. The headlights were placed lower in the bumper and integrated into the same scoops that also housed the vents for the air curtains. Since EVs didn’t need wide cooling areas, the trapezoidal-shaped center air intake in the bumper was mostly blocked. A silver-finished trim underlined the apron, emphasizing the car’s crossover stance.
From its profile, the Elroq showed a muscular appearance, with an ascending waistline that created a visual connection between the headlights and the taillights. Below it, Skoda placed the handles on the sculptured door panels. The black moldings around the wheel arches and side sills made the car look like it had a higher ground clearance, even though it wasn’t a vehicle meant for serious offroad excursions. Thanks to the black B-post and the tilted-forward C-pillars, the window area looked like it was inspired by a coupe. Out back, the sloped rear window was adorned by a roof spoiler on its upper side. It was integrated into the tailgate that sported part of the horizontal and angular-shaped taillights.
Inside, Skoda created a sporty-looking ambiance with a high-tech appearance. Fronting the driver was a five-inch instrument panel that showed all the necessary data while driving. In addition, a head-up display with augmented reality was available. Like most cars of its era, the 2025 Skoda Elroq featured a touchscreen placed atop the center stack. It had a 13-inch size and had a fixed lower bar for the main buttons so that drivers didn’t have to scroll through menus to adjust temperature. Skoda also kept its promise to make its cars practical, so besides the already-known feature of the in-door umbrella, the automaker placed the cables underneath the parcel shelf in the back in a net. The bolstered front seats were available with integrated headrests, while the split-folding bench seat in the back could host three adults.
Under its skin, the 2025 Skoda Elroq had motor choices similar to those of its ID.4 brother. At the sales start, it was available in a rear-wheel drive configuration with a 125 kW (168 hp) motor. The automaker added an all-wheel drive version later. Depending on the battery pack and options, the mid-size crossover could drive up to 560 km (348 miles) between charges. It could also be refreshed from 10 to 80 percent in 28 minutes or less on a 125 kW DC fast-charging station.
