The cargo e-bike market continues to flourish as a broader range of consumers, from parents to pet owners, are interested in more eco-friendly and practical alternatives to traditional vehicles for their daily errands, such as grocery shopping and school runs. The cargo e-bike has emerged as a greener and more convenient car-replacement solution, so more and more manufacturers are dipping their toes into this segment.
The latest to venture into the cargo e-bike world is budget bike brand Heybike, which has just launched its own long-tailed model aptly named the "Hauler." With an ergonomic design and an impressive payload capacity of 440 pounds (200 kg), the Hauler is touted as the company's "most capable cargo e-bike to date."

Founded in 2021, Heybike is a relatively young company but has already gained many fans because it provides widely accessible PEVs for those looking for a budget-friendly entry into the electric bike lifestyle. The manufacturer produces a variety of user-focused e-bikes, including commuter bikes, folding bikes, mountain bikes, and now cargo bikes, all of which are known for their affordability, quality, and stylish design.

Designed as a versatile two-wheeler that can handle everything from family outings to commercial deliveries, the Hauler cargo e-bike comes with a powerful motor and a hefty dual-battery system. To be more precise, the e-bike offers up to 1,400 watts of peak power from a 750W continuous-rated rear hub motor that delivers 80 Nm (59 lb-ft) of torque. This allows riders to conquer even the steepest hills with ease and reach a top assist speed of 28 mph (45 kph).

As for the battery pack, the bike comes standard with a 48 V 18Ah battery with a capacity of 864Wh to support all that motor power on extended journeys with heavy loads. With this battery configuration, riders will achieve an impressive 55 miles (88 km) of range on a single charge. For those who want to explore further, a second battery can be added (48V, 12.5Ah) to unlock a combined range of 85 miles (137 km).

The e-bike rides on 20-inch wheels shod in 3-inch tires and boasts a hydraulic suspension fork. A 7-speed Shimano gearset is also part of the package to ensure ride flexibility, while hydraulic disc brakes take care of braking.

In terms of construction, the Hauler is built around a low-step, aluminum alloy frame and boasts a robust yet sleek design. While most cargo e-bikes come with a cargo box, usually up front, the Hauler is much more discreet, boasting a practical rear rack with bolt-on peg boards for attaching accessories. As mentioned, the newcomer can haul up to 440 pounds (200 kg), including the rider. Owners will be able to equip it with a rear-rack basket, a heavy-duty Orbitor basket for the little ones, or additional pegboards to better adapt to their cargo needs. As such, the Hauler can be used to carry groceries, packages, gear, or even extra passengers with an optional extra seat.

Other noteworthy features of the Hauler include a "breathable" seat, fold-up footboards, an LED lighting system, and a large mid-handlebar color LCD screen that displays essential ride data.

When it comes to pricing, the standard single-battery Hauler cargo e-bike can be ordered for $1,499, while the dual-battery version sells for $1,899. Both versions are currently offered with a $100 discount, and deliveries are expected to commence next month.
