Depending on who you believe, Tesla's Cybertruck is either the most incredible thing since slice bread, able to withstand the apocalypse and capable of taking a beating without showing a sign of damage, or an overhyped electric truck. Not matter who you believe, though, it just got a matching towable that stands out for impressive autonomy, unprecedented versatility, and luxurious styling.
The Cybertruck is controversial, but then again, so is Tesla in the most general sense. That shouldn't distract from the fact that it remains the number one company making electric vehicles in the U.S. and Europe, and that the Cybertruck is a certified hit with customers – many of whom might want to take it out for longer stretches, towing a trailer that would match its post-futurist styling.
That's where Living Vehicle and their CyberTrailer come in. Since November 2019, when the Cybertruck was first presented to the public, we've seen more than a fair share of Cybertruck-ready RV products, but the CyberTrailer is the only one to actually come to fruition. It's also, so far, the only one delivering performance, autonomy, and style to match the e-truck.
Living Vehicle is a California-based boutique-style builder of luxury sustainable trailers. They work with limited editions only, announcing them via renders and then producing the exact number of units ordered. In other words, if you ever see an LV-branded render or concept and the written pledge that it's going into production, you can bet on it to happen.
The CyberTrailer was announced this past summer and teased in several renders and vague descriptions so far. Today, Living Vehicle is announcing the full list of specs while showing a first – quite awesome – look at the interiors.
The CyberTrailer is designed to push the limits of off-grid, electric-powered adventure, and to "transcend conventional camping with resource independence," according to the company. Whereas traditional RV companies will strive to fit in a bigger battery bank or bigger water tanks to extend autonomy, LV takes a different approach by creating regenerative resources.
In much simpler words, why weigh down the RV with battery banks when you can make your own power from the sun? Why carry larger quantities of water when you can make your own from the air? The CyberTrailer does all that, thanks to proprietary tech, allowing "weeks or even months" of complete autonomy wherever you might go.
The CyberTrailer is 27 feet (8.2 meters) in total length and has two self-powered axles. With a maximum capacity of solar of 5,000W and as much as 10kW in battery, it will power itself and run everything onboard, charge the towing vehicle when there's no charging station around, and charge whatever pair of electric toys you might be bringing along, be they e-scooters, e-bikes, or electric surfboards, thanks to 240V Level 2 charging capability.
Weighing 5,000 lbs (2,260 kg) and with a maximum permissible weight of 9,000 lbs (4,082 kg), the CyberTrailer has a solar cell-covered roof and self-adjusting awnings that maximize the amount of electricity it can generate every day.
It'll also make its own water, with LV equipping it with their now-standard water generation system that extracts up to 9 gallons (34 liters) of water from air daily, even when humidity is as low as 20%. Advanced water recycling and smart, reduced consumption help with extending autonomy at camp.
LV says that the CyberTrailer will have a drag efficiency of just 0.39 at 55 mph (88.5 kph), effectively maximizing EV and boosting MPG if you're towing with a diesel or gas truck. To be sure, while it was designed for and named after the Cybertruck, this trailer will work just as well with comparable trucks, whether electric like the Rivian R1T or ICE (internal combustion engine) models.
The CyberTrailer is as impressive inside as it's from the outside, particularly thanks to its 6-in-1 central area, which, as you might have guessed, has six different configurations depending on your needs or time of day. The idea is to make the most of every inch of space, and LV does it with flair.
That central area serves as an open living area or an entertainment space, with recliners and a theater system that can turn every night into a cinema experience. Add a table, and it will become a dining room for all five people living onboard. Remove the table and fold down the desk attached to one wall, and you get a mobile office for two with Starlink internet. Remove the furniture, and you get a garage for a pair of e-bikes, with floor straps for easy and secure transport.
At night, that same space becomes the bedroom, either for two or for five, thanks to a queen bed that automatically drops from the ceiling or bunk queens, with the lower one formed by joining the dining sofas. In both cases, you get automatic privacy dividers on both sides.
The fold-down patio is another LV staple, and it's present in the CyberTrailer as well. The novelty here is that, with the living room doubling as a garage, this patio can also become a loading ramp for those two bikes. A sizable gear garage is also available on the exterior of the trailer, with LV describing it as large enough for all your adventure gear.
The kitchen is located centrally, and while compact, it packs in everything you need on the daily, including a drawer dishwasher, an induction stove, and an electric oven, as well as storage space and plenty of prep space.
The spa-like bathroom is at the front of the trailer, divided into two parts: the shower room and the toilet room, with a walk-in closet in between. "Walk-in wardrobe" is perhaps the last phrase you'd expect to read in the description of a travel trailer, but LV does travel trailers that are more than luxurious: they're bold enough to go against the grain while delivering maximum functionality.
The Living Vehicle CyberTrailer goes into production in 2025 and will start shipping to customers in order. Last time we covered it, LV was saying they had 80% of the available slots reserved, but they still have a few more open. Reservations are just $100, but the CyberTrailer starts at $175,000 in standard spec. This kind of luxury, autonomy, and stress-free travel experience as made possible by the CyberTrailer couldn't possibly have come cheap.
