The 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show - or Automobility LA by its alternative name - is bringing a lot of novelties from various carmakers active in the United States. However, one specific automaker is getting all of its novelties, not just the most important ones, to the Los Angeles Convention Center in California.
That would be Volkswagen – that brand with so much to accomplish and so few accomplishments, at least as far as the US automotive market is concerned. After years of thinking they know better and not caring about what the market trends point to, it seems the knife is cutting through the bone at one of the biggest automakers in the world – at home, in Germany, there's unheard-of-talk of closing plants or drastically lowering salaries, for example.
In North America, the echoes of Dieselgate still linger even all these years since the debacle, and Volkswagen needs to work even harder to regain the public’s confidence. As such, it is no wonder the company has gone through significant changes as of late. For example, starting next month, Volkswagen Group of America will have a new CEO as Pablo Di Si suddenly stepped down – to be succeeded by Kjell Gruner starting December 12.
They are also using the 2024 LA Auto Show as the perfect venue for one of their most important launches – the all-new (and rather boring, if you want my two cents on the matter – though, remember, beauty is always only in the eye of the beholder) 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is coming on stage as the carmaker's best-selling nameplate in the United States. They say it has "bolder styling, more power, and enhanced fuel efficiency, (plus)… a refined, high-quality interior and introduces an advanced infotainment system to elevate the experience."
Alas, it won't be alone. Volkswagen will join the Tiguan on stage with "its freshest lineup yet" at the Los Angeles Auto Show – all VW models have been updated over the past couple of years. For example, the entire Atlas family and the all-electric ID.4 were refreshed for the 2024 model year. Additionally, this is the first major North American event for the facelifted Golf GTI, Golf R, Jetta, Jetta GLI, and Taos, all revealed this year.
As such, the Jetta models reached nationwide dealer locations in September, followed by the debut of the upgraded Taos. The updated Golf GTI and R models were first revealed at home on the Old Continent earlier this year, and this is their first apparition on the red carpet under the spotlight in the United States. Also, the first-ever ID. Buzz is quickly approaching dealerships, and the third-generation North American Tiguan is ready to capture the hearts and minds of the audience.
The Volkswagen Jetta family is on sale from an MSRP of $21,995 for the Jetta S and $32,715 for the Jetta GLI, which keeps its turbo 2.0-liter with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque sent through a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG. The 2025 VW Taos compact crossover SUV starts from $24,995 for the S front-wheel-drive model.
Pricing and availability for the refreshed 2025 VW Golf GTI and Golf R hasn't been announced yet, but both have a new, freestanding 12.9-inch touchscreen among the main assets, and the Golf R's power increases by 13 hp to 328 horsepower. The 2025 ID. Buzz is "the spiritual reincarnation of the classic Microbus, reimagined for the electric future," starting from $59,995 for Pro S models.
