The good folks over at the drag racing-focused ImportRace channel on YouTube are, as always, dwelling around their usual venue - Island Dragway in Great Meadows, New Jersey. If you didn't know, this is NJ's only remaining dragstrip, so no one should be surprised that big crowds are gathering for their popular 'Test & Tune' events.
As such, over the past few months, we have seen converge here a lot of interesting automobiles – both import and domestic – including EVs, muscle cars, trucks, sports cars, and the occasional miscellaneous stuff like an old-school Pontiac GTO, a Chevy Tri-Five, or the Gasser next door. Just recently, though, if you wanted to check out only the fresh and minty models, then models from GM and FoMoCo quickly popped up.

Naturally, the S550 Ford Mustang GT is still a common sight just about everywhere, and the same sentence has started to become valid for the S650 seventh-generation GT. Even GM's C8 is very popular there, of course. However, there are some hidden treasures that are always nice to check out – such as the 500-hp Dark Horse or the C8 Z06, for example.

Well, someone did one better as of late because they brought to Island Dragway the fresh 655-hp C8 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray performance hybrid to the venue. The first time we saw this beautiful red-and-black striped over-blue example was to check out its skirmish against an equally brand-new 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance (Highland).

That day, the all-electric sedan narrowly beat the E-Ray, including during the rematch. As such, it's easy to understand why the Corvette owner was looking for easier (but just as cool) prey. Soon enough, they found a gray S650 seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse that previously made short work of a sixth-generation Chevy Camaro before an F-150 dared to intervene and teach the sports car a quick quarter-mile lesson.

Now that the Dark Horse and Stingray had found each other, they proceeded to race, and the Chevy driver edged its opponent fast with a better start despite the slower reaction time. Both sounded glorious while thundering down the raceway and, in the end, one of them sure made a fool out of the other – the Dark Horse looked like it was strolling while a jogger swooshed by, hence the absolute destruction on the electronic scoreboard: 11.44s versus 13.99s!

That's obviously quite shameful for the brand-new S650 Ford Mustang Dark Horse when the Dearborn automaker brags about their 500-hp Coyote V8 machine being capable of 12s flat at 118 mph passes across the quarter-mile dragstrip, right? Oh yeah, the E-Ray also didn't do the Chevy-promised 10.5s pass at 130 mph, but at least it obviously beat its opponent!
