1958 was the year when Chevrolet decided to revamp its entire full-size lineup with the introduction of the Impala. Presented two years before at GM's motor show, the Impala progressed from concept to production stage almost overnight, using baby steps to explore the automotive space.
It was launched as the top Bel Air version, but Chevrolet's full-size car strategy was way more ambitious. It included three different series, namely the Bel Air (with the Impala available as a hardtop and convertible), the Del Ray – which joined the battle with six models – and the Biscayne.

While the Impala was the name on everybody's lips, the Bel Air was slowly relegated to plan B in Chevrolet's full-size customer base. The Biscayne and the Del Ray were less popular, though they were cheaper ways to get a full-size Chevy.

The Impala is still the most sought-after 1958 full-size Chevrolet today, but this Biscayne posted on eBay by Thiel Motors is certainly worth checking out.

The photos speak for themselves and highlight a beautifully restored hardtop that needs nothing. It sports a Bone White and Light Bleu two-tone exterior paired with a blue and cloth interior. The car is no longer fully original – and that's a shame because collectors love original full-size Chevys – as it has already been upgraded with a new stereo system and vintage air conditioning.

However, it sports the factory dual antennas, the stock bench seat, and several other original goodies that you'll find in the cabin.

If you don't mind the upgrades, it's definitely worth checking out what happens under the hood. The engine in charge of propelling this Biscayne is the 348ci block, which starts, runs, and idles perfectly. It doesn't need anything, but I'd be more interested in the work the engine has already received as part of the restoration. The 348 was the top option in 1958, and it launched alongside the Impala, remaining the most powerful choice in Chevrolet's full-size lineup in the next years.

The vehicle has only 36K miles on the clock, and the dealership claims this is original to the car.

How much should such a Biscayne be worth? Putting a price on such a car is difficult because not many are still around, as most restorers choose to save Impalas rather than other 1958 full-size Chevys. However, the garage listed the car on eBay for auction, and the top offer today is a little over $9,100. However, the reserve is still in place after 31 bids, and considering we're only a few hours away from the auction's end, we will probably see the Biscayne getting relisted in the coming weeks.

If someone decides to get the car without a fight, they can trigger the Buy It Now price available at $36,900. The car is parked in De Witt, Iowa.
