There's a brand-new channel on YouTube called Scout EV Forum, and their first two videos focus on the new Scout Traveler and Terra EVs, of course, showcasing a variety of colors and vintage 'rallye stripes' recipes.
In late October 2024, another iconic off-road model came back to life – the International Scout. However, it wasn't under the guise of the International Harvester agricultural equipment company, as was the case between 1960 and 1980. Instead, the branding is now owned by Volkswagen after it successfully acquired America's Navistar International in 2021.
After that, in 2022, the German automaker established a new subsidiary – Scout Motors – focused on producing off-road capable electric vehicles and headquartered in Tysons, Virginia. Because it's completely independent from VW, it doesn't use the traditional Volkswagen dealer network, so it will follow the same sales model as Tesla, Rivian, or Polestar, selling the vehicles directly to customers and also providing the service duties.
Recently, in October 2024, Scout Motors debuted two EV concepts – a pickup truck named Terra and an SUV called Traveler, the spiritual successors to the International Scout and direct competitors for the likes of Rivian R1T and R1S as well as informal rivals of the retro-styled Jeep Wrangler plus Jeep Gladiator and sixth-generation Ford Bronco. Naturally, interest from fans has been tremendous since the introduction – but we're going to have to be extremely patient because the series-production variants are not coming soon.
Instead, the company tips them for a 2026 or 2027 release as a 2028 model year! To pass the time, the rumor mill and the parallel universes of vehicular CGI have set a web of ideas – from talks about how Scout is already planning a third model or why Scout and Rivian are not the same despite the Rivian-VW joint venture, as well as various unofficial, hypothetical design projects coming from members of the imaginative guild of digital car content creators.
Because the Scout Traveler SUV and Terra pickup truck expertly mix the technology behind modern electrification (including with a range extender option that will pit the Terra against the Ram 1500 Ramcharger) with retro-charming design, it was only a matter of time before someone dug deeper into the International Scout heritage to come up with something cool. So, besides a (very) long and arduous CGI color reel, these two videos embedded below also showcase the Traveler with the Rallye stripe package.
So, which is your favorite between these hues: Dark Green/Forest Green, White, Tamarak Bronze, Blue, Concord Blue; Forum Blue, Amethist Purple; Burnt Orange with or without the matching roof; Gray; Light Yellow or Mustard; Red; Bright Green; Sand/Tan; Yellow; Black; Lime Green; or Slam Yellow? And would you like them with classic, heritage Rallye stripes or not? Of note, only the Traveler SUV gets the rally stripes pack, but you can also play with a body-colored or a black roof. On the other hand, the Terra pickup truck gets many of the same hues but with the option of a white, black, or body-colored roof for mixing, matching, and/or contrasting purposes.
By the way, while these two are called prototypes, they are most likely very close to the finished vehicles - so the technical specifications are also probably very close to what is coming to market. That makes the EREV (extended range) models particularly interesting with their 500-mile (805-km) range, right?
