This year, the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show had very few major premieres – but all of them were also very important for the automakers and customers. Interestingly, one South Korean automaker ruled the hostilities.
While Kia America had no less than five premieres on stage at the Los Angeles Convention Center for the 2024 LA Auto Show (November 22-December 1), its sibling Hyundai came only with the Ioniq 9 three-row all-electric crossover SUV as a worldwide introduction. However, some will eagerly say that it matched Kia's prowess, which showcased the refreshed 2026 Kia EV6, the 2026 EV9 GT, and the 2026 Sportage facelift, among others.
Hyundai is eager to match the Kia EV9 – which has seen quite a bit of success as one of America's inaugural mainstream three-row electric SUVs. The Ioniq 9 is coming with the same recipe – the E-GMP architecture, a modern yet simple exterior design, troves of interior space, great features and amenities, plus good range – more than 300 miles on all grades.
So, under the floor resides a 110.3-kilowatt-hour (net) battery pack, and there are single or dual-motor AWD Long Range models plus a Performance AWD variant. Inside, there's space for six or seven people, as well as loads of features. The base version has 215 hp and 335 miles of range, and the AWDs have 310 hp and 430 hp, respectively. But what happens when someone doesn't want to see the interior because they think the exterior is a bit too bland despite Hyundai's claims of 'Aerosthetic' design?
No worries, the parallel universes of vehicular CGI have an answer – as the members of the imaginative guild of digital car content creators have been hard at work thinking about ways to improve the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 9. For example, Nikita Chuicko, the virtual artist better known as kelsonik on social media, thinks that now is the right CGI time to work on the upcoming 2025 Ioniq 9 and lashes out with a few of his signature digital tricks.
First and foremost, the few chrome pieces on the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 9 have now disappeared in favor of the pixel master's CGI 'Shadow Line' treatment, helping the larger black wheels and other body elements to provide a contrast against the massive body. Additionally, there are three new colors – a bold crimson hue that surely can't be unseen, along with a more subdued white plus a menacing all-black treatment.
So, which is your favorite? Also, would you buy the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 9 instead of the 2025 Kia EV9? Other potential foes are the 2026 Cadillac Vistiq if you want something ritzier or the Rivian R1S if you want something a lot more rugged.
